Show blooms

While I was thinking about who to show, I was left with a few choices. These choices have me thinking about the rule I have set for myself. I only show up to 4 rabbits per show. The only exception is when I have a bunch of juniors that I want to get comments on, even then the most I've shown was 7.

I keep my numbers down on purpose.
  1. To save money
  2. More room in the car
  3. I don't compete for sweeps, so I don't see the point in showing rabbit X when rabbit Y can beat them anyday.

Maybe one day, when I am running for sweeps, I will show more, and try to be more competitive with numbers. For now I want to focus on my herd, and build it as strong as I can with the limited amount of space that I have.
I am excited to show Deuce tomorrow. He is the first homegrown buck that I am keeping, so I hope it goes well with him. I'm entering Braden, Emma, Iris (who just started to blow her coat, brat), and Deuce. I am also bringing Chewy to be looked at, and have his color confirmed, as well as N3 to be put on the raffle. Should be a slow day, not expecting anything big to happen, although I am contemplating on bringing Marshmallow to be registered. She is looking so pretty, and I think she may have her coat in by convention! I can't wait to show her, she is my pride and joy, and the heart of my rabbitry.

    It's not over folks

I think it's safe to say that my paranoia has reached a higher level.

Straight from the Save the 6 Bells Rabbitry FB page:
    "The Bell Project
Colorado Breeders being targeted! Another breeder in Colorado has had a complaint filed against them. The local Police responded to the call. Fortunately the officer felt the call was unjustified and dismissed the complaint. The breeder in question has been a vocal proponent for Debe Bell.

someone complained that rabbits were sitting in the sun ?? Mine are all under shade and someone else MIGHT think they need more sun. sheesh these people are out of control !"

So, calls are being made now to basically any rabbit breeders. Great.. Thank goodness the officer had a brain and didn't take the hoarding idea into account when he looked. Also, I have had people ask me if they need sun.

I like this comment the best:
"For people who know nothing about rabbits, they certainly seem determined to tell us how to raise ours!"

Ok, so back onto the actual 6 Bells rabbits. Read this--> Clicky

This bothers me, I don't want to go into this, it's not right that they're selling her rabbits. I can't even begin  to understand how this feels. Not to mention the thought of the pet buyers who are buying on impulse, and really know nothing about what they're getting into. Idiots.

    Bunny Cave!!!

Oh yes, Tea Cup has her own little bunny cave. I gave her a Diet Pepsi box the other day, and she seemed to like hopping in and out of it. Eventually it got squished, so I took it out and replaced it with a bigger Pepsi box. She was in bunny heaven! She loved running in and out of it. I wish I could give some of the others one, but Tea Cup has the most room to work with. I mean, she is only 2lbs 4oz. lol. Now, pictures galore!

    And Lastly::

OH EM GEE!!! There is a piece of poo. Call the AC on me!
Ok ok, the last one was a joke. Maybe even a bad joke. I couldn't help it! AC stands for Animal Control, in case you're like me and went "huh?" when you first saw that abbreviation. I wanted to put some light humor to the current situation, not trying to make fun, or criticize in any way. I am poking fun at the situation "poke poke".

    Doggie backpack

Spencer saw this in a pet specialty store today, and he was glued and he wanted it. We go walking at Emerson Point Preserve which has a lot of nature trails, and it's perfect for a fun day outside with Lexi (our dog). We always wanted to take her, but we would need to carry a lot with us. So, when Spencer saw the backpack, he was sold. We took her walking around the neighborhood today, and she was not bothered by it. It wasn't heavy on her, or hurting her, she seemed normal.

On this side I put the poop bags, and bones. (I later moved them to the right side)

I put a little pink knife on this side, which was switched with the treats, and hand sanitizer.

She seems like she really likes it, and on Spencer's next day off we'll take her to Emerson, and it will be a lovely day. I need to find a small bowl for water though, I plan on getting that tomorrow at Petsmart.

Now, on to a fluffier note, I really want to breed. I'm down to only one baby left to sell, and I really really want to breed again. I'm being good, and holding out till after convention when the new cages should be finished *sigh*. Sometimes it isn't fun to be patient.

    New!!

We have a new look! Isn't that exciting? I'm also going to try playing around with the coloring to see what fits best. Black is so blah. Ok, ok. I'll post again either later today, or tomorrow. Toodles!

I forgot to put a title! Now I can't think of one.

Convention is coming around soon, and it's time to think of a shopping list. Supplies is uber cheep, and I want a lot. Thinks are just so cheep! I was so shocked last year, I wasn't expecting that. So far this is what I plan on getting:
    • Name plate the size of business cards, enough to name all my rabbits, and hopefully more to make up for future cages.
    • Nestboxes. I need a lot, and I don't want to pay the price at the shows, much less the stores.
    • Water bottles. I have my little eye on these: Clicky.  The smallest ones, they're perfect for traveling.
    • Automatic feeders for the cages I'm building.
    • More feed bowls for traveling/the rest of the cages.
There's probably more, but right now that's all I want. When the numbers come out, it wont seem like such a small number... Oh well. Life happens, and I want stuff.

I want them. They will make my life easier.

Let's see... What else... I weighed Tea Cup, she's the smallest senior I have right now. When she was 3 months old she didn't weigh enough to show. Now she weighs 2 lbs. 4 oz. Max weight for a Jersey Wooly is 3 and a half, with 3 lbs bring ideal. Her ears are under 2 and a half. 2 and a half is ideal, and 3 inches is the max. Such a tiny rabbit.

All that jazz - Bell rabbits

Most of us rabbit breeders know that a few weeks ago a law was passed and signed by the governor of California that has the possibility of putting a stop to breeding and showing rabbits. We are ignorant if we ever thought breeders could be attacked only in California.

On Thursday July 21, 2011 Debe Bell received the call of her life. She found out, from a neighbor, that the animal control officers were in the process of seizing all of the rabbits on her property. I wont go into the details of the story, the news reports do a good job, below are links to some of the reports

Basically animal control came to the house with a search warrant, saw what they think is bad condition (I'm assuming) and started taking the animals. Now they are selling the rabbits off for $25. Seriously?? What gives them the right to sell rabbits that are not technically theirs? Surely a court case has to be won in order for this to be legal. I was curious about the laws in Colorado, so I looked it up. I couldn't find anything. This makes me think, if the warrant was only a search warrant, do they have the right to take the animals? They surely don't have the right to sell them and spay and neuter them, which they will more than likely send the bill to the Bell family. To me this is unlawful, and not fair.
"Though officers couldn’t have overlooked the fact that the rabbit enclosures were clean and the barn was equipped with cooling, fly-control and watering systems.."
I think the officers saw the massive amount of roughly 200 rabbits and immediately though "unclean, she can't care for this many, they're being neglected, this is hoarding, etc." and that this is an obsessive person, and not a knowledgeable breeder who has been doing this for over a decade.

The Denver Post states that they gave Bell a 72 hour notice before they seized the rabbits.  The article also states that the rabbits were hungry for water and food. I know mine would gobble it up if they had the chance. Rabbits act like they haven't eaten or had anything to drink in days. Rabbits are greedy.

There's so much more that can be said, but I'll let you form your own opinion.

Update: Another link: here  Click on the picture for more pictures. If you're eating, stop. It's gross. Really really gross.

    This is sort of old

I made this a while ago, but I kind of feel weird posting certain stuff on the "official" blog. Plus there are lots of times when I want to upload a blog on the go, but I can't because I can't edit weebly through my phone. They really need to change that, like for realz.

Ok.. so I guess this blog will have other things in it, like about my other animals, and some other things about rabbits that I don't feel comfortable putting on my website. I guess I try really hard to keep it professional, so I try to keep the posts there.... what's the word...... professional, I guess. Idk, it's hard to explain. Oh well, I guess you'll be able to tell the difference within a few posts. Also, I don't like the way the weebly blogs look. Blah.
