Goals: 2012

I've been sitting on this post for the past few days, trying to think of decent, and hard goals. So, here it is!!! I hope I can keep up with them, and I will be visiting this post in a year =D

Here are my goals for 2012:

1. Grand Champion a home bred - I earned 3 legs on Marshmallow as a junior, only needed one more! I hope to be able to Grand Champion a home bred in 2012!

2. Be more selective with my home breds - I want to be pickier with my babies. If that means I don't keep any in the litter, so be it.

3. Get started with Agouti and Shaded - I've had unexpected luck with Tans and Selfs, I now want to get started with my actual passions; Agouti and Shadeds.

4. Build more cages to house more juniors - We have most of the materials, and now I want to be able to expand my heard, allowing it to improve.

5. Stay cleaner - I'll admit, I've been lazy. This is more of a resolution, but I do plan on keeping up with the cages, regardless if my husband is there to help me with the big ones or not.

I hope you all have a safe, and happy new year! I will see you in 2012 =)

They're starting to get cuter

Just a little video of the babies that we have here. They're 2 weeks old, and beginning to explore the cage. Hope you enjoy =)

I see yooooou

Peanut Caden died last night. =(

The babies have opened their eyes =) I've been parading them around the house one by one, and they've been moving their little paws in a "put my down" way. Poor little guys.. they have no idea how much parading they're in for.

Nothing from Emma yet, I'm hoping! She still has plenty of time, I just wish it was more sooner than later.

On to the pictures!!

This weirdo does NOT look like a bunny. I don't know what it looks like

Jumping on the band wagon

Well, since everyone else is doing goals, I'll do mine too!! I set mine pretty low for this year. But hey, gotta start somewhere! Plus it's a good motivator. I was going to wait, but with 6/7 completed, and no more shows for the year, I figured why not!

1. Get a net book (or a cheap keyboard for my PC), and purchase Evan's Software. I have a Mac, so I have to make my pedigrees the long way digitally. I want Evan's so bad.
Well, this one I gave up on. I'm really happy with my pedigrees, and I'll worry about buying Evans when I have a larger herd. Right now I'm doing a good job doing everything manually.
2. Grand Champion a rabbit. Oh my gosh I am cursed! I think this is a generally achievable goal. I am waiting on registration papers for a rabbit, and after that I have everything I need to GC him. Unfortunately, every time I've registered a rabbit, they passed away. I hope this goes away with the year of the rabbit!
Braden is the first rabbit that I GC. Emma will be the second, if I ever get around to sending her papers in.
3. Babies! I wont even bother explaining my problems. I just want a live litter that has the potential to live for years to come.
I had 2 litters born the first week of January. Call this one checked!!! I've had about 3 years worth of trying to breed, and nothing to show for it.
4. Place more rabbits at ARBA Convention this year. I placed 2 out of the 4 I brought last year. I really want to place more than just those 2, and be more selective with which rabbits I bring.
Placed 3 out of 5 this year!!!

5. Bring homegrown Jerseys to Convention
FP's Deuce is my first ever homegrown to show at convention. I wish it was Marshmallow, but she was in mid coat.

6. Build new cages to replace the older ones. I want to utilize the "gutter system" style of rabbit cages, and I plan on building some this year so we can use them when I move.
We already have 2 cages built, with plans to build 2 more. The gutter system wont be built until we settle down.

7. Put a leg on a home grown rabbit. This is important for every breeder, and I think I can do this one.
My first ever homegrown, FP's Marshmallow, took a BOB at her first show in April, and earned 2 more legs as a very young junior.

I'll have to think of goals for next year... I think I'm going to throw in some toughies this time, just to add a challenge.

Baby news

Long time no blog! The last one didn't count, took no effort to write. It's been over a week since I put any real thought into a post here. Finals was kicking my butt this semester. I had 4 tests last Thursday, only 3 classes btw. 2 of them were finals, one I knew was going to be easy (History). Religion was a bit difficult to study for, as we weren't really given much to go on as far as studying goes. I passed that one with a B. My other two tests were in Philosophy. One was on a book that I read that weekend prior (spent 3 days on that book) I passed that one, and the second one was a chapter test, which I got an A on. I felt good that day! Then came my Philosophy final, which was earlier today. That one was brutal. I also had nothing really to go on as far as studying. I think I got a B though... That class was hard.

So, while all this school shmuck was going on, we had a litter born on the 5th! Yes, A litter. Night had 4 babies, one being a peanut that is still alive to this day. Poor little guy. I named him Caden. The other 3 are doing really great. One is a REW, and the other 3 are Tan. I'm hoping for a Black Silver Marten, but I'll have to wait a bit to tell the difference. Here are some pictures:

All 4 babies on their second day

One week, and one day old. Poor guy got peed on. He smells

Emma is due in 2 days. I have no idea if she'll have any. I hope so, I think the pairing will be fantastic! Both have really nice bodies. Plus I want to actually have some Agouti babies in the herd, since that is what I want to focus on.

Only time will tell. Till next time, toodles!

Babies? Not yet

Irish Lass is on her 29th day, she has a tendency to be late so I'm not expecting any movement till either tomorrow or Monday.

Night is usually on time, with her litters born on the 29th day. Today is the 27th day, so she still has plenty of time also. That hasn't stopped her from tiding up her nest.

Just a quick fix. She's using the small box, so I'll have to move them over to the covered one when she has them. I had to do this last time too. Quite annoying.

All done!

Iris has done nothing, I've just been throwing hay in her cage, but no action at all. She makes me so nervous..
